White House: Ukraine’s forces make ‘notable progress’ in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. Washington has seen “notable progress” in Ukraine’s counteroffensive on the southern front line in Zaporizhzhia Oblast over the past 72 hours, the White House said on Sept. 1, Reuters reported.

ISW: Ukrainian forces continue offensive operations near Bakhmut, advance in western Zaporizhzhia Oblast. The Institute for the Study of War reported on Sept. 2, citing Ukrainian General Staff, that country’s forces continued offensive operations south of Bakhmut. Obtained geolocated footage shows that Ukrainian forces marginally advanced northwest of Klishchiivka, some seven kilometers southwest of Bakhmut.

Two more merchant ships leave Ukrainian port through navy corridor. Two ships have left the Pivdennyi Port in Odesa Oblast through a corridor organized by the Ukrainian Navy, the Infrastructure Ministry announced on Sep. 1.

Russia claims 3 unmanned boats destroyed trying to attack Crimea bridge. Russia’s Defense Ministry reported in the early hours of Sept. 2 that its forces had destroyed three unmanned boats being used in an attempt to target the Crimea bridge. The ministry accused Ukraine of the attack.

Russian governor claims 2 aerial targets downed over Belgorod region. Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of Russia’s Belgorod region, claimed on Sept. 1 that two aerial targets were shot down in the Yakovlevo and Korocha districts. According to preliminary data, cited by Gladkov, there were no casualties or damage.

Intelligence Chief: Drone strike on Pskov launched from inside Russia. “We are working from the territory of Russia,” Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR) chief Kyrylo Budanov told media outlet The War Zone on Aug. 31.

Ombudsman: Russia to introduce military training courses for students in occupied Crimea. Starting Sept. 1, Crimean students from grade five to nine will attend extracurricular activities called “Foundations of Military Training,” Ukraine’s Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets reported on his Telegram.

Governor: Russia’s war has damaged 15,000 civilian properties in Kherson Oblast. Russia’s full-scale invasion has damaged 15,000 civilian objects in Kherson Oblast, most of which are residential buildings, Governor Oleksandr Prokudin told Interfax-Ukraine.

Police report bomb threats in educational institutions as learners start new academic year. Police in Kyiv, Chernivtsi, and Poltava said they had received information on the possible mining of educational institutions on Sept. 1, the first day of the new school year.

Ukraine designates PepsiCo, Mars as ‘international war sponsors.’ Ukraine’s National Corruption Prevention Agency added major food corporations PepsiCo and Mars to the “international sponsors of war” list on Sept. 1.

Reuters: US to send depleted-uranium munitions to Ukraine. In a significant development, the Biden administration is preparing to ship armor-piercing munitions containing depleted uranium to Ukraine, marking the first time such weaponry will be sent to the country. This information was revealed in a document seen by Reuters and independently confirmed by two U.S. officials.
