General Staff: Ukrainian forces make gains near Robotyne, Klishchiivka. Ukraine’s armed forces have made gains south of Klishchiivka in Donetsk Oblast and south of Robotyne in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported on Sept. 9.

Defense minister wants to introduce military ombudsman position. Newly-appointed Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said on Sept. 9 that he plans to introduce a new position of military ombudsman who would “deal with the military needs of our soldiers.”

UK Defense Ministry: Ukrainian forces put increasing pressure on Russian defensive lines. Russia has highly likely redeployed its forces from other areas of the front line as Ukrainian forces advance beyond Robotyne, limiting Russian forces’ chances of carrying out offensive operations, the U.K. Defense Ministry reported on Sept. 9.

Zelensky: Preparations underway to protect Ukraine’s critical infrastructure through winter. President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sept. 9 that plans are being implemented to protect Ukraine’s energy and critical infrastructure from Russian missile and drone strikes through the winter.

City official: Ukrainian flag flies over Avdiivka, then Russian-occupied Donetsk.

Vitalii Barabash, head of the Avdiivka city military administration, said on national television that Ukrainian forces launched the national flag into the sky over Avdiivka on Sept. 9 to commemorate the 245th anniversary of the city’s founding.

G20 ‘consensus’ declaration calls for peace, but refuses to condemn Russia’s war in Ukraine. The Group of 20 summit in New Delhi adopted a “consensus” declaration on Sept. 9 that called on countries not to use force to seize territory but fell short of condemning Russia for its war in Ukraine.

Authorities: Ukrainian air defense destroyed more than two dozen drones over Kyiv. Ukraine’s air defense forces destroyed more than two dozen drones over Kyiv during Russia’s overnight drone attack, Kyiv City Military Administration Head Serhii Popko reported on Sept. 10.

Sky News: UK citizen fighting in Ukraine found dead with hands bound behind back. U.K. citizen Jordan Chadwick, 31, who went to Ukraine to fight with the International Legion, has been found dead in Ukraine, Sky News reported on Sept. 9, citing the U.K. Foreign Office.

Fire reported at Russian military unit in occupied Simferopol. Local Telegram channels reported that a large fire had occurred at a Russian military unit in Simferopol in Russian-occupied Crimea on Sept. 9. According to the “Chp Simferopol” Telegram channel, explosions were heard prior to the fire.

Romania finds new Russian drone debris on its territory. Romania’s military found the debris of yet another drone “similar to those used by the Russian army” on Sept. 9 near Plauru, a village close to the Ukrainian border, Romania’s Ministry of Defense reported.

National Resistance Center: Partisans blow up soldiers who protected sham elections in occupied areas. Ukrainian partisans killed one Russian soldier and injured two by blowing up a car in Nova Kakhovka, Kherson Oblast, on Sept. 9, the National Resistance Center reported.

Russian official: 3 drones downed over Crimea. Sergei Aksyonov, head of the illegal Russian occupation government in Ukraine’s Crimea, claimed on Sept. 9 that air defense had destroyed three drones over the Crimean peninsula.

Ukraine holds England to 1-1 draw in football game. The Ukrainian national team on Sept. 9 played a 1:1 draw with England during the Euro 2024 qualifying tournament in Wrocław, Poland.

Update: 1 killed, 74 injured in Russian attack on Kryvyi Rih. Oleksandr Vilkul, the head of the Kryvyi Rih’s defense council, reported on Sept. 9 that the number of people injured in the Sept. 8 missile strike has risen to 74. Thirty-four of the injured are hospitalized, and three are in serious condition, Vilkul added.

General Staff: Russia has lost 268,140 troops in Ukraine. The General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces reported on Sept. 9 that Russia had lost 268,140 troops in Ukraine since the beginning of its full-scale invasion on Feb. 24 last year. This number includes 600 casualties Russian forces suffered just over the past day.

Russian attack on Kyiv injures 1. Drone debris fell in at least four areas of the city, including Shevchenkivskyi, Podilskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported in the early hours of Sept. 10. One person was reportedly injured in the Podilskyi district.

Russian attack wounds civilian in Chernihiv Oblast. Russian shelling wounded a 68-year-old man in the village of Kostobobriv, Chernihiv Oblast, on Sept. 9, the Chernihiv Oblast prosecutor’s office reported.
