Ukraine to forcibly evacuate children from 9 settlements in Donetsk Oblast. Due to constant Russian shelling, 130 children will be forcibly evacuated from nine settlements in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine’s Reintegration Ministry announced on Aug. 5.

Media: Authorities search lawmaker’s assistant office over alleged forged documents. The State Bureau of Investigation reportedly searched the office of Volodymyr Kolodyuk, the assistant of lawmaker Oleksandr Dubinsky, on Aug. 5 over the alleged forging of documents during Dubinsky’s travel abroad, according to an undisclosed source of Ukrainska Pravda.

Ukraine peace plan meeting kicks off in Saudi Arabia. A two-day summit, set to last until Aug. 6, began in Jeddah, gathering senior officials from some 40 countries, except Russia, to discuss the implementation of Ukraine’s peace formula between international partners.

Ukrainian officials discover draft evasion scheme. An employee of the Military Commissariat and four other accomplices in the Ternopil Oblast were caught forging documents to help people evade mobilization and travel abroad illegally.

Ukraine’s security chief: Attacks on Russian ships, Crimean bridge ‘logical and legal.’ The Security Service of Ukraine chief Vasyl Maliuk effectively admitted that Ukraine was behind the attacks, saying they were taking place in the territorial waters of Ukraine and are “completely legal.”

Explosions reported in Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi oblasts as Air Force warns Russia launched Kinzhal missiles. Russian forces unleashed a batch of Kinzhal ballistic missiles against Ukraine late on Aug. 5, targeting central and western regions, Ukraine’s Air Force reported.

Governor: Russia launches missile strike on Zaporizhzhia. Russian forces have launched a missile strike on the outskirts of the city of Zaporizhzhia but no casualties have been reported thus far, regional governor Yurii Malashko reported on Aug. 5.

Ukraine’s military intelligence: Russia won’t be able to repair Olenegorskiy Gornyak in near future. “This is a structure that was not made in Russia, and the damage there is very significant. Of course, in the near future, we will not see Olenegorskiy Gornyak,” military intelligence representative said.

Official: August especially successful for Ukrainian air, naval drones. Defense Council Secretary Oleksii Danilov said that with each new combat mission, Ukrainian combat unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and naval drones become “more accurate, operators more experienced, combat coordination more effective.”

Zelensky vows to continue reforms next week.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Aug. 5 that he will carry on with reforms next week to strengthen state institutions.

Russian shelling kills 1 in Sumy Oblast. Russian shelling killed a 62-year-old man in the Novoslobodsk settlement on Aug. 5 around 2 p.m., Olha Garkavenko, the head of the settlement, told Suspilne.

Russia attacks Kherson overnight, injures 2 civilians. According to the report, Russian troops shelled Kherson seven times over the past day, firing 63 projectiles.

General Staff: Russia has lost 249,110 troops in Ukraine. The General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces reported on Aug. 5 that Russia had lost 249,110 troops in Ukraine since the beginning of its full-scale invasion on Feb. 24 last year.

International response

Kuleba talks with Turkish minister, discusses Russia’s withdrawal from grain deal. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Aug. 5 that he had held a phone call with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan to discuss Russia’s withdrawal from the deal that allowed Ukraine to export grain from Black Sea ports.

Lithuania to provide Ukraine with NASAMS launchers. The ministry did not specify the number of launchers but said they would also provide Ukraine with counter-drones, some logistics equipment, and more.

Polish official: Poland considers ‘any steps’ necessary to protect territory. Poland may need to close its border with Belarus as “the threat is very real,” Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Pawel Jablonski told CNN on Aug. 5.

UK Defense Ministry: Olenegorskiy Gornyak is largest Russian vessel seriously damaged after sinking of Moskva cruiser. This is a significant blow to the (Russian) Black Sea Fleet, which previously relocated most of its units to Novorossiysk due to the high threat to Sevastopol,“ the ministry added.
