8 Ukrainian children return home from Russian-occupied parts of Kherson Oblast, governor says. In a statement released on Aug. 3, Kherson Oblast Governor Oleksandr Prokrudin said the eight children who returned home include five girls and three boys, aged between six and 17. The governor thanked the Ukrainian humanitarian NGO Save Ukraine for making the return of the children possible.
Ukraine hit Morozovsk airfield, oil depots in Russia overnight, General Staff confirms. Ukrainian forces attacked the Morozovsk airfield in Russia’s Rostov Oblast, successfully hitting its ammunition depot storing glide bombs, among other weapons, the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces confirmed on Aug. 3.

Russian attacks on Kherson Oblast injure 3 men, 1 child. A Russian drone dropped a munition on a 12-year-old boy in Bilozerka. He suffered leg and abdominal injuries, as well as concussion, and was hospitalized, the governor said.
Russian attacks across Ukraine kill 5, injure 11 over past day. A total of 14 Ukrainian oblasts came under Russian attacks over the past day.
General Staff: Russia has lost 581,760 troops in Ukraine since Feb 24, 2022. This number includes 1,170 casualties Russian forces suffered just over the past day, the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces reported on Aug. 3.

Women’s saber fencing team wins Ukraine’s first gold at 2024 Olympics. Ukraine’s five-time Olympic medalist Olga Kharlan, along with fencers Olena Kravatska, Alina Komashchuk, and Yuliia Bakastova, made their way to the Olympic finals by beating Italy and Japan.

Ukrainian gymnast Illia Kovtun finishes fourth in the men’s floor exercise final at Paris Olympics. The 20-year-old gymnast was defeated on Aug. 3 by Carlos Yulo of Philipines (5 points), Artem Dolgopyat of Israel (14.966 points), who was born in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro, and Jake German of the United Kingdom (14.933 points), respectively.

Kyiv evacuates first 30 Ukrainians from Lebanon amid escalation in Middle East. On the way to Ukraine, the evacuated Ukrainians, including 21 women and nine children, have already arrived in Rzeszow, Poland, where they were met by Ukrainian consuls and Ukraine’s military intelligence (HUR) representatives, the agency said.
