Russia’s war against Ukraine

Zelensky: Russia will try to destroy Ukraine’s energy infrastructure this winter. In the upcoming winter, Russia will attempt to demolish Ukraine’s energy infrastructure with more attacks, President Volodymyr Zelensky said during his evening briefing on Oct. 6.

CBS: North Korea supplying Russia with weaponry. North Korea has started to deliver artillery to Russia for its war in Ukraine, CBS News reported on Oct. 5, citing a U.S. official.

Ukraine retrieves 64 bodies of fallen soldiers. The bodies of 64 fallen Ukrainian soldiers have been retrieved from Russian-occupied territories, the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of the Prisoners of War reported on Oct. 6.

Estonian volunteers come under Russian missile attack in Ukraine. Volunteers from Estonian NGOs Vaba Ukraina and Ukraina Abi came under Russian missile attack on the morning of Oct. 6, Vaba Ukraina wrote on social platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

Russia strikes Odesa Oblast overnight on Oct 7. Russian forces launched several Onyx supersonic anti-ship cruise missiles from Crimea targeting Odesa Oblast in the early hours of Oct. 7, Ukraine’s Southern Defense Forces reported on Telegram.

Ukraine records highest number of job vacancies since start of full-scale invasion. The number of job vacancies in Ukraine reached its highest level last month since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Opendatabot said on Oct. 6. There were 105,000 vacancies on the website Work.ua in September.

Ukraine seizes over $450 million worth of assets from 3 Russian oligarchs. Ukraine has seized assets worth more than Hr 17 billion ($464 million) from Mikhail Fridman, Petr Aven, and Andrei Kosogov, the Security Service of Ukraine announced on Oct. 6.

Explosive kills child in Sumy Oblast. A 14-year-old has died after discovering explosives near his family home in Okhtyrka, Sumy Oblast, on Oct. 6, according to Suspilne. The explosion occurred around 10:00 a.m. local time as the boy was unraveling a fishing line in their family’s yard.

Russia shells Vovchansk in Kharkiv Oblast, 3 injured. A Russian attack on the town injured three people, Governor Oleh Syniehubov said on Oct. 6. The shelling caused a building to catch fire, destroying three apartments.

4 people remain missing in Hroza after recovery operation ends at missile attack site. Four people remain missing, including two children, following a Russian strike that killed 52 people in Hroza village, Serhiy Bolvinov, the head of the investigative department of the regional police, said on Oct. 6.

Mediazona confirms identities of over 33,900 Russian soldiers killed in Ukraine. Through open-source research, Mediazona, a Russian independent media outlet, together with BBC Russia, confirmed the names of 33,904 Russian soldiers who had been killed since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Reuters: US sanctions 42 Chinese companies over Russian military support. The U.S. Commerce Department added 42 Chinese companies to the export control list for their support of Russia’s military and defense industry, Reuters reported on Oct. 6.

Sweden announces $200 million military aid package, considering sending fighter jets. Sweden will send a new military aid package worth 2.2 billion Swedish krona ($199.8 million) to Ukraine and is assessing the delivery of Gripen fighter jets, the Swedish Defense Ministry announced on Oct. 6.

Netherlands announces new $100 million package to support Ukraine. The Netherlands is allocating 102 million euros ($108 million) to support investments, recovery, and reforms in Ukraine, the Dutch Foreign Trade and Development Ministry announced on Oct. 6.

Reuters: Diplomats say Russia could return to UN Human Rights Council over ‘Ukraine fatigue.’ There is a sense, particularly among African and Asian countries, of a growing fatigue of the war in Ukraine, according to diplomats that spoke to Reuters.

Austria summons Russian ambassador following Kharkiv Oblast village attack. Vienna has summoned the Russian ambassador following the attack on the village of Hroza in Kharkiv Oblast on Oct. 5, the Austrian Foreign Affairs Ministry said on Oct. 6.

FT: Moldovan president says Prigozhin attempted coup in Moldova. Moldovan President Maia Sandu alleged in an interview with the Financial Times published on Oct. 6 that Wagner Group founder Yevgeny Prigozhin attempted a coup against her as part of a larger plot to destabilize the country.

Antonov becomes first Ukrainian company to join Europe’s largest aerospace lobby. Ukraine’s largest aircraft manufacturing company Antonov joined the Aerospace, Security and Defense Industries Association of Europe (ASD), the association said on Oct. 6.
